President's Report - December 2025

LGAT President Mick Tucker

Welcome to the final edition of LGAT News for 2025.

I recently attended the Local Government Housing Forum with the Australian Local Government Association. I joined 120 other local government leaders for the launch of the Guide for Local Government on the Delivery of Affordable Housing. The session brought together local government leaders, the housing sector, and Federal Ministers Clare O’Neil and Kristy McBain to discuss practical solutions to Australia’s housing challenges.

It’s hard to believe that we are at the end of another year. It’s been a busy one for our sector, with the State Government progressing its Local Government Priority Reform Program. This has resulted in multiple proposed reforms being released for consultation that we have been engaging with closely.

It was fantastic to see so many of you at the LGAT Annual Conference recently. This is an important event for our sector, as it gives us an opportunity to learn from the experts, and also from each other which is equally as valuable. I was honoured to host so many of you at the Waterline for the first-ever President’s Welcome Drinks. It was a great chance to connect with each other more casually before conference proceedings kicked off. The feedback we received on this pre-conference event was excellent, so it will be making a return in 2026.

Before we look too much to the future, it was great to have the chance to reflect on 2025 in the LGAT Year in Review. Local government is never standing still, and that could not be more well represented in the round up of the work the team at LGAT has achieved this year. I encourage you to take a look.

I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a safe Christmas and happy New Year.
