Community health and wellbeing

Councils and the health and well-being of their communities

Local government plays a key role in providing for the health and well-being of Tasmanian communities, as outlined in the Local Government Act 1993.

We receive funding from the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to facilitate the Local Government Community Health and Wellbeing Project.

This project is guided by a complex systems approach that partners with interested councils to make active engagement in improving community health and wellbeing outcomes a regular part of council business.

The role of LGAT

We work in key areas with councils and stakeholders to improve awareness and understanding of health and wellbeing by:

  • advocating the essential role councils play in improving Tasmania’s health outcomes
  • promoting the best ways to support that essential role.

This project helps councils to respond to the strengths and health needs of their communities. Please log into the member portal to view research, resources, and case studies.
