Almost eight in 10 councillors reported experiencing abuse and intimidation over the last two years which is impacting the lives of councillors and their families.
Intimidation and abuse of elected representatives, whether in person or otherwise, undermines democracy. Such actions can prevent councillors from effectively representing their communities, discourage individuals from running for office, and erode public trust in democratic processes.
We must stand together to condemn such behavior and support our representatives in fostering a respectful and constructive democratic environment. The right engagement matters.
By signing the pledge, you commit to:
- Promoting civility in public debate.
- Refraining from abusive language and behaviour online or in person.
- Encouraging others to engage respectfully.
