Position Available: Program Manager – Tasmanian Local Government Climate Capability Program
Do you want to make a difference with your work? Do you want to influence change for more inclusive, resilient and sustainable communities? Do you want to work for an organisation that is respected by its members and stakeholders for being effective, collaborative and dynamic?
We are looking for an experienced policy and program person to work with the local government sector and the Tasmanian Government to co-design and implement a statewide climate change action program for local government.
About Us
We are the peak body for local government in Tasmania. Our role is to support, advocate for and represent the local government sector, so our 29 council members are best placed to serve their communities.
We’re a small adaptive organisation that is driven to make a difference for Tasmania. Annual leave is five and half weeks (including a Christmas/New Year shutdown), as well as generous superannuation and long service leave provisions. Our office is on the doorstep of cafes, Hill Street Grocer and the Hobart Rivulet, the perfect place for a lunch time walk. We look after our people, supporting and rewarding them. We respect that work is part of your life, not your life. Most staff work off-site a few days a week, and those with kids have flexible arrangements for pick-ups, drop-offs and events.
About You
You’ve got demonstrated policy and program skills and experience, a track record of achievement and bringing creativity to challenging problems. You’re known for your engagement skills that connect people, uncover the true problems and, importantly, how we’ll take action together. You’ll understand local government’s challenges broadly, and in addressing climate change.
About the Role
You'll be working with the local government sector and the Tasmanian Government to co-design and implement a program of statewide climate change action in local government that builds the sector’s capacity to respond to the impacts of a changing climate and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
This position will support the delivery of the Building climate change capability in local government action in Tasmania’s Climate Change Action Plan 2023–25 and is funded by the Tasmanian Government (Renewables, Climate Change and Future Industries Tasmania).
This is a two-year contract role offered on a part-time basis.
