Policy Program Manager Position
Do you want to make a difference with your work? Do you want to influence change for more inclusive, resilient and sustainable communities? Do you want to work for an organisation that is respected by its members and stakeholders for being effective, collaborative and dynamic?
Our organisation is the peak representative body for local government in Tasmania. Our role is to support, promote, advocate for, and represent the local government sector so our members are in the best placed to serve their communities. We work closely with our 29 member councils, the Tasmanian Government, community organisations and industry.
We are looking for an experienced policy and program person for a two-year role to develop and deliver LGAT’s member-responsive advocacy goals and deliver key policy programs.
About Us
We’re an adaptive small organisation that is driven to making a difference for Tasmania. Our office is on the doorstep of the South Hobart village with cafes, Hill Street Grocer and local shops. Nearby is the bubbling Hobart Rivulet, the perfect place for a lunch time walk, run, or relax.
We look after our people, supporting and rewarding them. Annual leave is five and half weeks (including a Christmas/New Year shutdown), as well as generous long service leave provisions. We top up your superannuation to a total of 14.5 per cent (3.5 per cent on top of the superannuation guarantee). Our recent staff social events have included croquet, board games and ceramics. We respect that work is part of your life, not your life. Most staff work off site a few days a week, and those with kids have flexible arrangements for pick-ups, drop offs and events.
About You
You’ve got demonstrated advocacy and project/program experience, and bring creativity to challenging problems. You’ll bring a track record of achievement, influencing positive change in a dynamic environment and delivering great projects. You’ve got outstanding communication skills – written and verbal – that will enable you to engage our members and other stakeholders. You’ll understand the challenges for local government and can work within our state political and socio-economic environment.
The successful applicant will be responsible for:
- Managing key projects and programs for LGAT.
- Undertaking research and providing high-level information and advice.
- Developing and maintaining effective working relationships across a wide range of key stakeholders.
- Production of written materials on issues relevant to local government.
- Other support services as required.
