Local government signs new partnership agreement with Tasmanian Government
The Local Government Association of Tasmania (LGAT) has signed a new partnership agreement with the Tasmanian Government that sets out a shared framework of principles and processes for consultation and engagement.
Designed to be applied consistently across all State Government agencies, the agreement aims to strengthen how the two levels of government work together on matters that affect communities across Tasmania. A key feature of the agreement is the establishment of a Minister’s Local Government Forum, which will meet twice a year to support more coordinated discussion on major policy and reform priorities.
The sector welcomes the Government’s commitment to more consistent engagement, noting that a clearer and more collaborative approach will help improve outcomes for Tasmanian communities. LGAT President Mayor Mick Tucker said the agreement reflects the important role councils play in shaping and implementing state policy at the local level.
LGAT looks forward to continuing work with the Government, including the development of a Local Government Charter to further support the partnership.
