LGAT Procurement Seminar brings councils and suppliers together in Hobart
This week’s inaugural LGAT Procurement Seminar brought together participants to share valuable insights for improving procurement and contract management within their own councils and across the sector.
Held in Hobart at the C3 Convention Centre, the full-day event welcomed more than 50 council officers, suppliers and delegates, offering direct networking and engagement opportunities.
There were plenty of highlights from our panel of experts, including:
- Tina Perfrement from the City of Greater Geelong, who delivered an insightful presentation on how to leverage the market to achieve innovative outcomes through forward commitment using the Procurement for Innovation process.
- Lara MacDonell from the City of Hobart provided a simple yet effective framework to implement a procurement strategy within council and how a clear strategy can elevate procurement outcomes across an organisation.
- Luke Kenny from Local Government Procurement NSW took us on a deep dive into the opportunities that lie within technology to advance procurement practices, as well as the importance of supplier relationship management.
- Rene Kling from Supply Chain Management Education Australia shared a forward-looking update on what councils need to know about the industry in 2026 and beyond, to help them embrace opportunities and prepare for potential challenges, touching on hot topics such as agentic AI and supply chain disruptions.
- Lou Stojanovski from Keystone Lawyers reiterated the importance of relationship-based contracting to achieve better project outcomes and shared case studies of what can go wrong when it’s not done well, highlighting how the GC21 suite of contracts can help facilitate this.
- Gen Rider from TasWater outlined why the organisation made a significant shift to better share risk and strengthen relationships with contractors to improve project outcomes, and how the decision to change was justified as part of a panel discussion on how to influence positive change.
Networking was a key feature of the day, with sponsor tours, workshops that encouraged knowledge sharing, informal conversations during the breaks and engaging Q&A sessions with speakers. These interactions were well received, and attendee feedback on the event was highly positive.
We’d like to thank our LGAT Preferred Suppliers who sponsored the Seminar. Their invaluable support allows events like this to be delivered to the sector.
