Launch of the Tasmanian Infrastructure Design Guidelines
LGAT was proud to officially launch the Tasmanian Infrastructure Design Guidelines alongside IPWEA Tasmania at the IPWEA Tasmania AGM and Technical Session held at Callington Mill on 7 August 2026. The launch marked an important milestone in a collaborative project delivered through a partnership between LGAT, IPWEA Tasmania, Sugden & Gee and the State Planning Office.
The new Guidelines, together with the Tasmanian Development Manual, are now available on the LGAT website and provide a modern, practical resource for councils, developers, engineers and other practitioners involved in development and infrastructure delivery across Tasmania. The Infrastructure Design Guidelines replace the Tasmanian Subdivision Guidelines 2013 and provide updated guidance for civil infrastructure that is ultimately transferred to councils or constructed within the public realm.
The Tasmanian Development Manual offers a consolidated guide to the development process, covering planning approvals through to design and construction requirements, supported by flowcharts, procedures and practical guidance. The Infrastructure Design Guidelines provide a consistent framework for road, footpath, stormwater and other infrastructure design, while allowing councils flexibility to select standards that suit local circumstances.
LGAT extends its sincere thanks to IPWEA Tasmania, Sugden & Gee, the project Steering Committee, and the many council officers who contributed their expertise and feedback throughout the project.
As part of the launch, LGAT conducted a survey of attendees to help shape future work on Tasmanian Municipal Standards, including future updates to the Guidelines and Development Manual, municipal specifications, standard drawings and supporting resources.
We encourage councils, consultants and industry practitioners to explore the new resources on the LGAT website and share feedback with LGAT to help guide future improvements and ensure the documents continue to meet the needs of Tasmania's development and infrastructure sectors.
