Over the past 12 months, the Future Populations Network has brought together local government leaders, elected representatives and officers from across Tasmania to build a deeper understanding of population change and its implications for planning, policy and decision-making. Workshops, webinars and monthly network meetings led by Dr Lisa Denny have explored population dynamics, demographic resilience, migration data and theory, population projections and the practical application of demographic evidence in local government.

The Network has also delivered a growing suite of practical resources to support councils and stakeholders, including the LGA Population Snapshots and Internal Migration Profiles available through the LGAT website. These resources provide valuable local insights into population trends, demographic characteristics and movement patterns across Tasmania’s communities.

As the Network enters its next phase, we invite councils, officers, leaders, and stakeholders to join and stay connected. Members receive invitations to regular online meetings featuring the latest population data releases, discussion of emerging demographic trends, and presentations from guest speakers across a range of Tasmanian sectors affected by population change. More regional workshop opportunities will also be available across Tasmania during 2027.

Whether your focus is strategic planning, infrastructure, economic development, community services, workforce planning or policy, the Future Populations Network offers practical tools, expert insights and valuable peer connections to help your organisation plan for and respond to Tasmania’s changing population.
