Councils

LGAT Procurement helps Tasmanian councils undertake best practice procurement and deliver value for money for their communities by leveraging the combined purchasing power of councils around the country whilst buying locally.

About LGAT Procurement.

Councils in Tasmania are not obligated to buy through the LGAT Procurement contracts, but there are significant benefits for them and suppliers if they do. Benefits to councils include:

LGAT Procurement contracts are tender exempt under the Local Government (General) Regulations 2015 (i.e., councils can engage suppliers through a simple request for quotation process, even for goods and services estimated to be above the tender limit).

Councils in Tasmania have saved millions of dollars through the LGAT Procurement contracts by leveraging the combined buying power of the local government sector in Tasmania and other states.

Councils can also save by reducing the administrative burden around the purchasing process – for example, the costs associated with a tender process are estimated to be in the order of between $15,000–$65,000 depending on the complexity of the tender and number of supplier responses.

LGAT Procurement contracts meet the requirements of the Local Government Act 1993 and Local Government (General) Regulations 2015 and provide councils with the assurance that all suppliers are vetted and compliant based on comprehensive tender, evaluation, and approval processes.

The platform (Vendor Panel) which councils use to access details about the LGAT Procurement contracts, helps to facilitate transparency in all purchasing decisions via detailed reports, records, etc.

Councils can access expert support and assistance in utilising the contracts for their procurement needs.

We know how important it is for councils to be able to support their local businesses and are committed to making that easy for them (e.g., market research, refresh, and engagement processes for contracts).

For more information, please contact our team (contracts@lgat.tas.gov.au) or log in to the LGAT Member Portal for access to our procurement templates, model documents, contracts, and training.

TESTIMONIALS

We appreciate being able to use the LGAT Procurement contracts and Vendor Panel for our RFQs - it eliminates so much extra work for us as the suppliers have been qualified.

I recently used the LGAT Procurement panel for Small Plant Machinery Equipment. It was simple to use and we saved nearly 20% off the recommended retail price.
