LG Representatives

The Local Government Association of Tasmania (LGAT) collectively represents all Tasmanian councils.

Sometimes we need representatives from local councils to take up positions on statutory authorities and government and non-government committees.

These representatives are formally appointed by us through a standard process of calling for nominations and then making a selection through the LGAT General Management Committee.

A nominated local government representative will:

  • Provide a whole of local government perspective to the committee
  • Act as an access point for information from local government to the committee/working party
  • Act as a conduit to give relevant information from the committee/working party to LGAT so it can be shared with all councils.

A nominated representative can't make formal commitments on behalf of any or all Tasmanian councils or LGAT.

The nominated representative must refer to LGAT whenever any formal consultation with councils is sought or endorsements or binding documentation is required. We are the only organisation that can undertake formal agreements and consultations – as per the terms of the agreement between the Tasmanian Government and us.
