LGAT General Management Committee

The General Management Committee (GMC) is chaired by the LGAT President who is elected by all member councils.

Elections for the GMC are undertaken in January every year following council elections. The Tasmanian Electoral Commissioner is the Returning Officer for the election and nominees for the president's office must be councillors.

By capital city status, the Lord Mayor has a place on the GMC, as long as the capital city is a member of the Association. While the remaining positions are elected from three regional areas (north, west/north-west and south). The role of the GMC is set out in the Rules of Association. LGAT Rules adopted June 2021 updated March 2022.

At its first meeting following the annual general meeting, the GMC elects one of its members as vice president. You can find the current GMC members here.
