Minister for Planning the Hon Roger Jaensch MP

In October, we heard from the Hon Roger Jaensch MP, Minister for Housing,  Minister for Environment and Parks,  Minister for Human Services, Minister for Planning,  Minister for Aboriginal Affairs.

Roger Jaensch grew up in Victoria, studied Geography at Monash University and worked in regional development and land use planning in outback Western Australia before moving to Tasmania in 2000 as the first employee of the Cradle Coast Authority. He was Executive Chairman of the Authority for 13 years, during which time he also served as a member of the Board of the Tourism Industry Council of Tasmania, and the University of Tasmania’s North West Advisory Board.

Roger was first elected as Member for Braddon in 2014 and served as Government Whip and Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business, Trade and Red Tape Reduction in the first Hodgman Government. He was appointed Minister for Housing, Minister for Planning and Minister for Human Services after the 2018 State election.  In 2019, he was appointed Minister for Community Development and Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, and Minister for Environment and Parks in 2020. Roger lives in Wynyard with his wife Stephanie and their three proudly Tasmanian children.

Councillors' and Officers' Insurance

This session held on 16 September covered the importance of Councillors’ & Officers’ Liability (C&O) insurance for Aldermen, General Managers, Directors and Officers of councils in ensuring they are covered for claims made against them as part of undertaking their daily role at Council. The webinar addressed:

  • What to do when incidents occur
  • Claim trends
  • Claim examples
  • Question and answer session

The webinar was delivered by Matthew Davis from AXA XL and Hubert Wajszel from Barry Nilsson .

The Heart Foundation & the Premier's Health and Wellbeing Advisory Council

In August, Mr Graeme Lynch AM, CEO of the Heart Foundation, joined us to discuss the current and future priorities of the Heart Foundation & the Premier's Health and Wellbeing Advisory Council. The webinar included a formal presentation followed by a question and answer session.

Mr Graeme Lynch AM  

Graeme is the CEO of the Heart Foundation and plays an active role in the public health space in Tasmania. He has a background in business with professional legal, accountancy, company director and commerce experience as well as interest in Tasmania’s economic development and tourism. Currently in addition to his Heart Foundation role, he is the chair of a number of councils and organisations, including Premier’s Health and Wellbeing Advisory Council, Tasmanian Chronic Disease Prevention Alliance, Health in All Policies Collaboration and is also Deputy Chair of Primary Health Tasmania. Graeme also serves as a member of the Tasmanian Tobacco Control Coalition, Tasmanian Health Care Improvement Expert Advisory Group and Tasmanian Data Linkage Unit Steering Committee.

Graeme is committed to influencing social and health policy that promotes healthy lifestyles, addresses the social determinants of health, and minimises chronic disease risk factors such as smoking, lack of physical activity and overweight and obesity.
