Roads and Transport
Local Government supports appropriate levels of services, both air and sea, to and from Tasmania including Bass Strait Islands to ensure that the residents and businesses of communities on those islands are not disadvantaged. (GM 2001) Local Government supports an 80km/hr speed limit on all gravel roads throughout the State. (GM 1998) LGAT supports State Government allowing Councils to determine speed limits for local roads in their municipal areas within Australian Standard Guidelines. (GM 2000) A draft policy should be prepared for dissemination to Councils on the issue of approval of heavy vehicle usage on Council roads. (GM 2002) Local Government resists any attempt by the State Government to move responsibility for the installation, maintenance or replacement of road line marking to Local Government. (GM 2006)
