Consultation
The Association is committed to consulting with the State Government through the Communication and Consultation Partnership Agreement in the development of policies and legislation that affect Local Government.
Legislation Committee
All legislation affecting Local Government is to be reviewed through the Legislation Committee.
The Legislation Committee is a subcommittee of the General Management Committee, with the following terms of reference:
- To be the primary focus for consultation with Local Government on new and amending State Government legislation;
- To develop, coordinate and be accountable for Local Government responses to legislative proposals;
- To establish working groups or technical reference groups to advise on legislative proposals as necessary; and
- To be the mechanism through which legislative proposals arising from Local Government is channelled prior to forwarding to/consulting with the State Government
Local Government Working Party Membership
Local Government working parties that review legislation and policies should comprise both elected member and officer representation. (GM 1996)
