Mentoring Program for Councillors

LGAT has available a mentoring program for local government elected members.

This program caters for elected members who may have a particular issue that they care to discuss with someone from outside their council to either test their theories, seek advice or obtain guidance.

Around 30 elected members are on the LGAT register as mentors.  Their nominated areas of expertise and/or knowledge include such topics as:
  • asset management
  • chairmanship and meeting procedures
  • constituency issues
  • finance
  • governance
  • mayor/CEO relations
  • media relations
  • planning
  • role of mayor
  • women in local government
How It Works
The matching process and introduction is undertaken by the LGAT chief executive officer and proceeds on the basis of the parties being willing and acceptable to each other. The relationship between the person seeking the service and the mentor is kept strictly confidential.

Whether you are recently elected or you are a longer serving member of local government, you are encouraged to avail yourself of this service.

If you wish to know more about the LGAT mentoring program or you wish to access the service, please call Allan Garcia on 6233 5972 for a confidential discussion.

If you wish to make yourself available as a mentor, please contact Allan Garcia, 6233 5972 or email with 'mentoring program' in the subject line.  Click here
