Emergency Management Information Kit

Emergency management is not a choice for Local Government - it is a legislative requirement. An elected member's understanding of emergency management is therefore very important.

The Local Government Act 1993 requires that councils "provide for the health, safety and welfare of the community" while the Emergency Management Act 2006 requires each council to "nominate a SES Local Coordinator and prepare a counter-disaster plan" (otherwise known as an emergency management plan).

Forging Links is an information kit which was developed by the State Emergency Services and LGAT to help elected members to understand emergency management leading practice and the emergency management framework in Tasmania.

To receive a full copy of the kit containing a ring binder and supporting printed materials, please contact State Emergency Service, by phoning 03 6230 2700 or email (sharon.sherman@ses.tas.gov.au) and include 'Emergency Management toolkit' in the subject line.

The workbook can be downloaded from the PDF.
