From 10-12 June, almost 200 delegates from councils across Tasmania attended the 2009 Local Government Conference, held at Wrest Point in Hobart. The conference, themed Community Conversations: Striving for More, featured an inspirational line-up of plenary and workshop presenters from around Australia who focused on a variety of strategies that councils could employ to better engage their community and staff members. The annual conference is coordinated in association with the Intstitute of Public Works and Engineering Australia and Local Government Managers Australia.

Civic Mutual Plus Conference Dinner
Around 350 guests attended the Civic Mutual Plus Conference Dinner, held on 11 June at the Derwent Entertainment Centre. A highlight of the evening was the announcement of the winners of the 2009 Local Government Awards for Excellence. Guests enjoyed a 3-course meal and Tasmanian wine, and were treated to a moving performance by 21 year-old singer/song writer, Dewayne EverettSmith, and dance music by The Giant Hamsters. A special thanks to our dinner and awards sponsor, Civic Mutual Plus, and to Print Mail Logistics Limited for providing the free shuttle service to the dinner.
