Stand for Council - What if you are elected?

What if you are elected? Dr Katrena Stephenson CEO Local Government   Association Tasmania describes what to do.

If you are elected, the Local Government Association Tasmania will support you with information, including important workshops for newly elected councillors in November 2018.

The workshops are run by the Association,  with support from the Local Government Division, Tasmanian Audit Office and Integrity Commission.

At that session you can learn about:

  • a councillor’s roles and functions generally;
  • the different role councillors have when acting as a member of the Planning Authority;
  • the important strategic, financial and asset planning of councils; and
  • acting within a good governance framework.

If elected you must make a legal declaration of office at your first council meeting, before you can be recognised and serve as a councillor, deputy mayor, or mayor.
