Our goals in the governance policy area are to:
- Take a leadership role in the interface between the Australian and Tasmanian governments and Local Government on matters of policy, legislation, regulation, roles and functions
- Advocate for appropriate policy and regulatory reform that supports local governance
- Ensure the appropriate oversight of legislative amendment impacting on Local Government and the maintenance of rigorous consultation processes
- Provide information and advice to elected members and senior council officers on the application of the Local Government Act and other relevant legislation
- Provide development opportunities for elected members and council officers
- Maximise awareness within the community of Local Government's role
